I got a chance to chat a bit with Ami Dunn McClure, 35, Nigerian mother of the adorable McClure twins (Alex and Ava), who are taking the media by storm.
Alex and Ava recently give adorable cat videos a run for their money when a discussion about how one twin is one minute older than the other was caught on video. The charming video soon caught fire and went viral on social media, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Life has not been the same for the McClure family since that adorable video. These cute little bundles of love are now being courted by agents, says their mom. With their growing popularity and their ease in front of the camera, we can authoritatively say that there are big things on the horizon for the McClure twins. The twins keep warming our hearts every day, so we are rooting for them to take Hollywood by storm and become the next Tia and Tamara Mowry.
Hopefully, the McClure twins’ parents are up to the task of nurturing their young superstars.
If you have an internet connection, there’s a big chance that you’ve stumbled upon the McClure twins. Ava and Alexis McClure are the cutest little things on the internet right now. Everyone and their mama is talking about these sweet little girls. They continue to put out content that tug on our heartstrings.
The McClure twins are real-life examples of how going viral can change everything. They were only three years old when their mom, Ami Dunn McClure, recorded their cute toddler conversation to post on social media. Their YouTube Video ‘Dada Eats all the Food’ brought the twins internet fame, but before the world could get a load of their cuteness their mom posted another video, which successfully completely stole our hearts.
Their second viral video captured a conversation between Ava and Alexis, with Alexis getting upset about the fact that Ava is one minute older. It sounded like such a big deal for Alexis, and we all felt her pain when she expressed her distress. Alexis, ever the loving big sister, comforted Ava and told her the one minute difference wasn’t such a big deal. “I’m only one minute older,” Ava consoled Alexis. Eventually, the twins hugged it out and seemed to finally accept the status quo.
Soon, the twins became media sensations after gathering millions of likes and reposts. Everyone wanted to know who they were. With their audience gladly consuming the content put out by the McClure twins’ parents, the McClure family went on to create and post many other viral videos. It seems like the world has sat up and taken notice of them, as legit news outlets are clamoring for a chance to feature the twins.
The McClure twins have appeared in US Magazine, the Daily Mail, Fox News TV, and Huffington Post, amongst other places.
They have gained over 1 million subscribers on their YouTube channel. Their Instagram page is also growing rapidly, and it currently boasts of more than 1.6 million followers as of December 4, 2018.
I couldn’t help but wonder who Alex and Ava’s parents were, and with a little Facebook digging, I found and befriended Ami and Justin. The couple met in 2014 and got married in 2015. The family recently welcomed a baby boy named Jersey McClure.
Their marriage is unique because it is both interracial and interfaith. Ami was raised as a Muslim while Justin was raised in an uber-religious Christian family in the south. When it comes to race and identity, Ami McClure says that the twins identify as Identical Mixed Twins. What a way to capture their identity!
Since they have a colorful religious background, the family has had to clarify that they aren’t religious at this point. They currently identify as humanists. They work hard to ensure that their household is free of organized traditions.
“We create our own traditions,” says Justin. “We believe that human beings can create an amazing world without the belief in supernatural beings.”
Their cultural differences notwithstanding, Ami works hard to make sure that the twins stay connected to their roots. The McClure twins regularly stun the world in beautiful African-themed dresses and accessories. A look through their social media channels will show you the twins and their parents rocking cute Ankara prints in their family portraits, usually taken by Justin. They also proudly wear their sky-high natural hair in awe-inspiring styles. Ami McClure isn’t shy to wear her hair in long box braids. They are proud of their colorful cultural heritage!
This family is a great model for all other interracial families. They have managed to blend their different cultures seamlessly.
Justin McClure is a budding photographer, but he has also worked as a stand-up comedian. Now it seems that his biggest job is raising his children and being a great dad and husband to Aminat McClure. His photography page on Instagram has hundreds of thousands of followers.
Who is the mother of the McClure twins?
Ami McClure is something of a star-maker. Let’s face it: it’s not every day that a regular mom creates family-friendly content that successfully changes the fortunes of her family. Her children are well-known across social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Ami is the one responsible for putting the McClure twins on the social media map.
Aminat McClure was born in Nigeria to a Muslim father and a Christian mother. She speaks fluent English and Nigerian.
Their meeting wasn’t conventional at all. Ami met Justin in New York when he intervened when she was being cat-called by a stranger. Justin pretended to know Ami and went to her aid, discouraging the guy who was harassing Ami. Ami and Justin exchanged phone numbers and connected on Match. They chatted on Match until they were ready to go further than just talking.
Their relationship began on that note and has continued to flourish ever since. They have been inseparable since then. Ami and Justin McClure tied the knot when the twins turned two years old.
Together, they have managed to team up and turn their kids into internet stars. If you ask them nicely, they’ll tell you they are hands-on parents who are also focused on nurturing and growing their relationship.
Justin and Ami are quite the parenting team. Apart from the twins, they are also parents to Jersey Tayo McClure, who has also inherited the McClure cuteness genes.

Followers of the McClure twins started asking about the McClure twins’ real dad when Ami and Justin sat down for an interview that had everyone scratching their heads. Before then, the couple hadn’t thought it necessary to mention the fact that they are actually a blended family. We all just assumed that Justin was the McClure twins’ real father.
In that controversial interview, Justin and Ami talked about how they met in 2014, but their followers were quick to point out that the math didn’t add up since the twins were born in 2013.
Questions flew in from everywhere, with most people getting curious about the dynamic of that family. Recently, Justin posted a conversation with the twins in a YouTube video titled ‘How Justin Became Our dad.’ Justin actually admits in the video that he adopted the twins.
The truth of the matter is that Justin met the twins three months after meeting Ami. The girls were just one year old. Ami was understandably skeptical about letting him meet the kids because she wasn’t sure about Justin then. But he did meet the girls, and over time he spent so much time with them that the kids can no longer remember a time when Justin wasn’t there. A few months after Justin and Ami got married he began the adoption process for the twins. They have been a family ever since.
Ami insists that the family hadn’t intentionally set out to hide the adoption from their fans. They were just cautious about revealing that information to the public before they properly explained it to the kids. Otherwise, there was always the possibility that their fans could stop them and mention it to the twins, confusing the girls even more.
Justin may not be their biological father, but he’s just the dad the girls need. “I was always meant to be your daddy,” Justin says to the girls in the video.
The McClure twins’ real dad controversy isn’t the only problem the family has faced in recent times. Justin’s old tweets resurfaced and caused a stir. It seemed Justin had less than glowing things to say about Black people in the past. Many people think the tweets were racist, others merely consider them stereotypical.
Justin admits to growing past that phase. Ami believes he’s not the same person that he was when he published those tweets.
So far, the twins are pretty oblivious about their new popularity. They are just kids who enjoy doing fun things with their family and filming these activities. “The twins have no clue,” says their mom. “They only notice when people stop them on the street and ask for pictures. “Mommy, why are you talking to people?” They ask this question whenever they go out and their fans stop them.
The twins are currently five years old. It is amazing how they only just burst out on the scene just two years ago. They have done incredibly well for themselves. It seems like it was just yesterday that they came on the scene, but now they are walking the runway at New York Fashion Week and traveling everywhere to meet the kind of influential people we are all dying to meet.
One thing is for sure, Alex and Ava have a big, bright future ahead of them. And the McClure twins’ parents have a lot of work ahead, managing their stardom. In the not so distant future, we may end up seeing these beautiful girls on the big screen. Wouldn’t that be something?
