I panicked because I could not find our last installment of C.S. Lewis classics The Chronicles of Narnia. We got through all of them except for The Last Battle. I think it got lost or maybe even thrown away in our move and may be sitting in the North Pole city dump or long destroyed. Bummer. This was the perfect Christmas present to my children. For years we had only known of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I enjoyed the animated and movie versions myself and couldn’t wait to share it with the kids — someday. When Prince Caspian came out, I thought I better look into CS Lewis a little more. He has a library of wonderful and exciting books penned. I was so happy to find that “Narnia” was a series of seven delightful books in a complete series. They are as follows:
1. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
2. Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia
3. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
4. The Silver Chair
5. The Horse and His Boy
6. The Magician’s Nephew
7. The Last Battle
In the order of reading, I think The Magician’s Nephew should probably be first. The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe second and then I would recommend The Horse and His Boy. Fourth I would recommend Prince Caspian then The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I found The Silver Chair is the saddest but all are great for children ages 7 and up to explore their imaginations through fantasy and adventure. Actually, anyone who is intrigued by fantasy, mythology and fairy tales will love the entire series. The collection makes a great assignment for the kids to report on for school projects too.
There are many topics to discuss from symbolic religious premises to familial relationships and friendships and much more. About my lost copy of The Last Battle, right before signing on to Amazon.com to purchase a replacement, I found it. It is the best. Although it makes a great gift anytime of the year, it is not too late to get The Chronicles of Narnia series online in time for Christmas. Consider purchasing for your kiddoes or yourself. Get it quicker on Kindle or Nook. The adventures await!
Happy Reading!
