While riffling through my thousands of emails, I came upon one that could possibly be the most impacting of my entire blogging career. It’s from a young black woman, who has asked that I keep her identify anonymous.
I’m a long time lurker at your site Beyondblackandwhite.com and I Just wanted to tell you how much I love your blog. Your blog single handedly and profoundly changed my thinking on a variety of topics especially race relations , giving me the courage to pursue my own interracial relationship. Which allowed me to marry the man of my dreams. I can’t imagine how my life would have turned out if i didn’t find your blog You are truly an inspiration! Please keep up the great work your reaching so many women out there. I would also like to send you a photo of my husband and I on our wedding day as proof that what your doing is making an impact. I politely and humbly ask That they don’t get shared on your site (Im fiercely protective of my privacy lol)
Since I also respect her privacy, I won’t post the picture, but just take my word for it–the couple is adorable, and her new hubby is a cutey. They are also quite young–I’m guessing in their mid-twenties.
It’s notes like this that make everything worth it–all the trolls who stalk me about the internet, all the gossip and ugliness people spew about me, and the blogs and forums dedicated to people who enjoy posting how many ways they hate me. How many people can say that the work they do can affect someone’s life like this? I truly have the best job in the world, and I thank God I have this gift.
