Do you love switching up your style by, in part, changing your nail color? If so, then you’ll be happy to learn about the monthly subscription nail polish and beauty product service, Julep.
On the Julep site you take a short quiz that asks about your personal style and using your answers Julep will figure out which type of Maven you are. Your responses might peg you as a Modern Beauty Maven, which means you’re “a savvy tastemaker obsessed with the art and science of beauty.” Or, perhaps you’re a Classic With a Twist Maven, i.e. “an iconic beauty with a timeless aesthetic.” There are 5 types of Maven’s, including the Modern Beauty and the Classic With a Twist.
After I took the quiz it was determined that I was a Bombshell–“a confident frill-seeker with magnetic appeal.”
I subscribed to the Julep subscription service and used the promotional code FREEBOX–for new subscribers only–to order 4 additional items.
As part of my Bombshell Starter Box, I received two polishes, a glittery gold colored nail polish named Oscar and a hot pink color titled Portia, and Mint Condition Pedi Crème, all by Julep.
The first product I tried was the Mint Condition Pedi Crème which felt so luxurious and immediately made my feet feel smoother. An hour after application of the crème feet still had a lustre to them. I’ve been using the pedi crème for a few days now and already believe that this is a product I’ll be purchasing again.
Oscar, on the other hand, hasn’t made me a fan. Although I used the color on my toes and received a compliment from a stranger on how cute my nail polish was, I just wasn’t crazy about the color.
I chose 3 other nail colors, Blakely, Kai, Portia, and 1 top coat polish, Freedom Polymer Top Coat, as my 4 free add-on products.
Blakely, a purple and green iridescent shade, was my favorite color out of all 5 colors I received.I put Blakely on my fingernails and followed with a coat of the Freedom Polymer Top Coat only on my left hand. By putting the top coat only on one hand I would be able to use the right hand as control and would therefore be ale to tell if the product made any difference. The gel gave my left hand just a tad bit more light-catching brilliance, nothing dramatic. You would only notice the additional shine if you were purposefully looking for it. The top coat slightly smoothed the surface of my nails. When I rubbed a finger over a nail on the left hand versus the right hand, you could feel the difference. However, the application of Freedom Polymer Top Coat didn’t appear to make the polish last any longer and therefore it’s not a product I would recommend.
Kai is a baby blue color and Portia is also blue, but sheerer than Kai and containing glitter.
I wasn’t too impressed with the colors in my first box so I changed my style type to “Modern Beauty”. Modern Beauty ships two full-sized beauty products each month whereas Bombshell ships one full-sized beauty product and two limited edition nail colors. Turns out that I like beauty products more than nail polishes.
The cost of the Julep subscription is $19.99 a month and you can order additional products every month for as low as $4.99.
Take the Julep style quiz and find out what kind of Maven you are.
