Today is the 50th anniversary of the death of President John F. Kennedy. He fought hard for African Americans to have basic civil rights, and I believe it was both morally and politically important to him to do so. Unlike Abraham Lincoln, who freed slaves, did so more out of the politics of it all to cripple the South. But did he think whites and blacks were equal? Dunno.

I remember my mother had a picture of Kennedy right next to white Jesus and Martin Luther King Jr. shown prominently on the center shelf in our family room. The trifecta of “black hope” in the 1960’s.

I don’t think Lincoln or Kennedy could have ever imagined that they paved the way for black and white unions in this country. They paved the way for Barack Obama to become president. So it’s for  those reason I celebrate them both.

By the way, it you’re a Stephen King fan, you should DEFINITELY picke up a copy of 11/22/63, about a time travelor that goes back to try and prevent Lee Harvey Oswald from killing Kennedy. The audiobook is amazeballs.
