With all this talk about more commercials depicting interracial couples featuring a black woman as a wife, the next question comes: are we prepared for all this attention and focus coming our way?
Positive media promotion matters, and here’s why: the brain and perception. The brain is constantly bombarded with stimuli, and most of it is unimportant and we filter it out. But what makes the brain stand up and take notice is repetition and themes. You see a commercial featuring an interracial family, an ad on your favorite website for an interracial dating app, and go outside for a walk and see a mixed married couple with 2.5 kids (how does that even happen?) in tow. All of a sudden, something you never noticed and therefore never considered is on your frontal radar.
It’s sort of weird, getting a flood of positive press for a change, isn’t it? What opportunities may suddenly arise at the notion of black women becoming the new “it” girls?
I explore this in my latest video.
