Whether the show flops or not (although I pray it’s not) having another beautiful, VISIBLY BLACK woman as the star and centerpiece on a prime time show is a SMASHING success. It’s for that reason, I’m intrigued, and will probably watch it unless I fall into a white wine coma after The Hubster’s lasagna.
Here’s the summary:
Detective Joanna Locasto goes undercover to investigate the death of her best friend, a notorious socialite from one of America’s wealthiest families.
Here’s the trailer. It’s got some major swirl action going on:
Here’s the pilot. Looks like there’s some elements of “Revenge” going on there:
You guys, this is epic. Two prime time show with a black female lead who is the object of affection by ridiculously hot men. Me love it long time.
However, it looks like the critics aren’t too much liking it. From USA Today:
USA Today likes the actors, but is doubtful it will get a second season. The Los Angeles Times editorializes about why race and the history of black women as maid to white is downplayed. During an interview, top execs where asked about this situation and were meet with silence.
I don’t know about how you feel, but I’m GLAD they are not making Meagan Good’s race the centerpiece of the show. Her character is a beautiful woman–who happens to be black. Isn’t that what we all want? But leave it to a flaming liberal paper like the LA Times to want to release the bloodleting on the central characters apparent victimhood.
Knowing what you know now, will you watch “Deception” tonight at 10?
