The beginning of August always brings about a sudden shift in people’s attitudes. It becomes apparent that the summer is beginning to dwindle, and that every day we get one step closer to re-entering reality. In order to feel as if we have some sort of control over the fast-approaching change in seasons, we jump into full fall prep mode. The most important prep being a wardrobe update of course. I think it’s actually a coping mechanism. You know, a little retail therapy to distract us from the sadness of having to pack away our favorite denim shorts and our itsy red bikini. But with last fall fashion week feeling so far away, it’s hard to for us to remember the pieces we once ogled over and the trends we’d swore we’d rock in the coming season. So, to give your mind a little refresh on what to look out for when on your annual end-of-summer shopping spree, I made a list of the five top trends of the season. Plus, I even found some items you can start shopping right now, just in case you can’t wait till the end of the month.
Fall makes way for cozy knits and warm colors, but this year they will come about in earth tones, natural materials, and eased fits. Be prepared for sweaters with rustic knit patterns, an abundance of fur coats (fake of course), and reimagined plaids. These country details will ground you, while the relaxed fits will keep feeling comfortable all season. And the best part is, this look will transition perfectly into the winter – making you feel like a winter warrior.

If you think earth tones are drab and romanticism is dead there’s no need to fret, because next season will also bring about a wave of unusual infusion of styles. As an attempt to create some sort of newness in fashion a sense of rebellion will emerge. Resulting in a juxtaposed mixture of colors, styles, and silhouettes. So for all you risk takers out there, you’ll have the chance to fill your closet with an abundance of futuristic metallics, spliced colors, sheer knits and other rule-bending styles.

Whether you’re trying to forget the 80s or trying to relive them, next season will be flooded by fashion flashbacks that will have you thinking its still 1985. It’s finally time to give animal prints, polka dots, oversized blazers, and leather looks a second chance. But this time, thanks to our high-fashion friends, they’ll be a little less gritty and a little more modern.

No one really knows what Pantone’s purpose is, except to tell us what our favorite color will be next season. 2018’s color of the year, greenery, brought awareness back to our earthly state. Pushing us to finally give up plastic straws and to slowly start eating less meat. But this season a new bright color is predicted to be popping up all over wardrobe – fuchsia that is. While this color does may not have as deep of a meaning (except maybe that millennial pink is dead?), it is a fun and unexpected color that will compliment a wide array of skin tones.
