I’ve been on a skincare kick lately! I believe a good skin care routine will make you look young and youthful for a long time! I recently got into the whole Asian skin care trend and have started to incorporate new things into my daily ritual. However you really have to be cautious about doing a lot of stuff to your face all at once. So I wanted to teach you how to find the right skin care routine that works best for you so you want have bad reactions…I’ve been there!
First step to any new skincare routine is to figure out your skin type! You need to know what will work best for your skin. Why put alcohol on sensitive skin or dry skin? Why would you add greasy products to oil face? You have to take into consideration your type! Everyone wants to have normal skin but it just doesn’t work that way here’s a quick guide to figuring out your skin type.
Dry skin is flaky, scaly, or rough.
Oily skin is shiny, greasy, and may have big pores
Combination skin is dry in some spots (such as the cheeks) and oily in others (like the forehead, nose, and chin)
Sensitive skin may sting, burn, or itch after you use some makeup or other products
Normal skin is balanced, clear, and not sensitive.
Before You Try…Do a test!
You don’t have to find the most expensive face products to get the work done. However you have to take in consideration what will work best for you. The best thing to do to avoid break outs or reactions is to try out a sample on one patch of your skin for a week. If there is no reaction you are good to go!
Be gentle with your skin
Don’t just rub products in really give your skin some love! Rinse your face with warm and cool water instead of harsh hot water. Hot water depletes the natural oils from your face.
Be aware of what your cleanser do.
If you have a cleanser that dries you out like no other it’s time to switch. Your cleansers should hydrate the face and leave your skin feeling squeaky clean yet moisturized! As well as a cleanser making you oily, get something that is just right. For dry or sensitive skin be cautious of alcohol or fragrances as these can irritate your skin. For oily skin go for oil-free cleansers particularly the foaming kind.
Toners
Toners are great for removing extra oil from the skin and balancing ph levels. For oily skin be cautious of the type of toner you use because it can irritate your skin.
Exfoliation
Exfoliating the skin is great especially if you have dry skin. Do this once or twice weekly but less if you have sensitive skin. Look for calming ingredients such as aloe, chamomile, and green tea so that your face is soothing and not irritated. Once again do not put harsh pressure on the face when doing any type of scrubbing…we don’t want wrinkles!
Moisturizer
This is so important for any skin care routine. Moisturizer keeps you looking younger! In the Asian community they apply different layers of moisturizers from light texture such as natural oil and essences, to thicker creams such as night creams. The sun can damage your skin within 15 minutes of being outdoors especially in the summer! Always add sunscreen to any daily routine with at least a SPF of 30! What I like to do is to apply moisturizer while my skin is still damp. It helps to absorb into the skin a lot more and your skin is so much more hydrated! For oily skin go for light weight oil-free moisturizers so that it doesn’t block your pores.
