Hello BB&W!!

I am so excited to be doing this feature! I’m a long-time lurker, so I want to thank Chris for the wonderful opportunity!!

My name is Laura. I am a soon to be 26 year old, single, childless, never-been married, African-American woman. I am 5’2 and petite, with curly hair and freckles. I am originally from Virginia, although I have been living in central Texas for the past few years. I consider myself to be a Southern girl, with a modern twist! I am the oldest of three daughters and come from a very loving and supportive family.

Currently, I am earning my Ph.D. in Latin American History. At this point I am all but dissertation. I have spent the past year completing my dissertation research, which focuses on the Dominican Republic. I hope to begin writing the project in August. I speak Spanish and I am working on getting my Portuguese up to par! I love my job – teaching, researching, and writing. I get to travel and meet different types of people all the time!

I have an array of interests. However, the closest to my heart are dancing and food.

I am a major lover of Latino food and culture, so of course I love Latin dance. I salsa, bachata, merengue, cha-cha-cha, and Mexican cumbia. I have been taking professional classes here-and-there for the past year. I plan to pick them up again shortly as my dream is to compete professionally in the next two years. In addition, I am a major foodie! I think food, within moderation, is love. I enjoy trying new restaurants and bars and living in central Texas for the past five years has opened up my food world. I also like to read, cook, practice my yoga, go hear live music, and take amateur photographs.

I do not have a particular type of man in terms of physical appearance. However, I do prefer my rainbeau be at least 5’6 so he will be taller than me when I wear heels. He should be between 28 and 35 years old. My ideal man is funny and smart! He has a good work ethic, values family, shares one or two of my interests, and is able to communicate the important things. He is interested in a long term relationship built on mutual love and respect.

Rainbeaus, this is your cue. Stop staring and get that girl!
