Happy Birthday, Baby Sussex!

Happy birthday to Baby Boy Sussex!

Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, welcomed their bundle of joy in the wee hours of the morning on May 6th. Well-wishers, royal super fans, and baby-watchers popped champagne at Windsor Castle to commemorate the arrival of another royal baby. Others peered in through the gates of Buckingham Palace to see the royal easel that marked this special occasion.

Little Sussex is already making history, as his arrival is the first of the royals to be announced on social media. Unlike his royal cousins, the easel announcement does not feature any doctors’ names, possibly to protect baby’s privacy. Rather than the usual photo call on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital, the new family of three will likely make their pictorial debut to the pair’s 6 million+ followers on Instagram.

Harry could not hide his elation at the news, trading in the usual royal scripting for unadulterated joy in a video clip where he gushes over his wife and newborn son; this marks another step away from tradition, mom and baby got a chance to rest while dad did press duty!

Around this time last year, the world was abuzz with the two’s upcoming nuptials. And now, they’ve welcomed their firstborn son just short of their one-year wedding anniversary. What a fitting addition to their fairy tale, whirlwind romance.

A name is yet to be announced. I personally hope they go for something regal yet away from the usual rota of royal names. I think Spencer might be somewhere in the moniker, in honor of the late Princess Diana, perhaps as a middle name. My guess would be James Alexander Spencer. Post your guesses in the comments!

Congratulations to them all, and even more congratulations to Grandma Doria on her first little grandbaby.
