Wow…when you know you know! Prince Harry, grandson of Queen Elizabeth, and Meghan Markle, daughter of a black woman from Compton, are set to be wed Spring 2018, and the world is enchanted. Well..mostly. And as I was watching the interview of them together, so clearly in love, some truisms came to light.

Harry met Meghan through friends in 2016, and knew from the moment he saw her he wanted her to be his wife. He asked her for her hand in marriage, and they’re not messing around…they’re getting married in six months, and I’m sure there will be children soon after.

So what can we observe here?

The world is changing, ladies and gents. Black mothers can make incredible humans.

Men don’t need 50-11 years to decide whether or not they want to marry you.

Men care more about your attractiveness, poise, and gentleness above all else.

Networks are important. A mutual friend introduced these two. Ladies, it’s time to expand your friendship networks.

So how should savvy, single black women process this? Here’s my take. It’s time for black women SHIFT their mindsets about how to start winning in the relationship market. Many more black women are now willing to date interracially and entertain all their options, but not all of them will be able, unless they understand all the unwritten rules, customs and practices of larger society.
