US couple denied wedding because they were black(AFP) – 17 hours ago
WASHINGTON — A Mississippi couple got the shock of their lives when the pastor at the church they attended told them the wedding they planned could not be held there because they are black, ABC television reported.

Pastor Stan Weatherford told the network there had never been a wedding for blacks at the First Baptist Church in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, since it was opened in 1883.

He said some of the white congregarion so virulently opposed the wedding of Charles and Te’Andrea Wilson, who are black, that they threatened to have him fired.

Weatherford, a pastor who is white, offered to wed the Wilsons down the road at a mostly black church, he told the network.

“My 9-year-old was going to the church with us. How would you say to your 9-year-old daughter, ‘We cannot get married here because, guess what sweetie, we’re black,'” Charles Wilson told ABC’s affiliate WAPT-TV.

The would-be groom told WAPT that the couple intended to join the church as members after their wedding, which was planned for July 20. Until they got the bad news that forced them to move their ceremony to another church where it was held July 21.

Locals voiced shock at the pastor’s move.

“That church was their home,” said local resident Theresa Norwood, 48. “What would Jesus have done? He would have married them, without a doubt, because it’s the right thing to do. We’re all God’s children,” she said.

I mean, aren’t folks in Mississippi EMBARRASSED that folks still think and act like this? This couple were MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH!! I am absolutely convinced that many folks in ‘Ole Miss wear their racism so proudly, and their whiteness is so invaluable to them that I think they should just go on and have it. Take your precious whiteness and shove it, Mississippi. I wish to gawdinhebbin you were your own country. But with your low test scores and low GDP you’d be a third world country anyway, asking us to save your sorry arses. I bet these are the same folks who complain all black people are unmarried and on welfare and how they don’t want their tax dollars to pay blah blah blah but when folks want to actually do the right thing and marry in the church in which they are members, they get slapped in the face. I’m sorry, I’ve heard one too many horror stories about Mississippi for me not to surmise that yes, it’s true…you suck.

But this is a good examply on how people need to forge their own circles of support, and eliminate exposure to unwelcoming and unsupportive people. Staying around anyone who contactly looks upon you with disapproval and distain is soul killing, and you should exit, stage left. “Left” as in, LEAVE already. Part of what has helped my relationship stay successful in that we make it absolutely mandatory that we surround ourselves and our kids around people who love and support us, and everyone else can go straight to the devil’s playground, suck deviled eggs, and eat rotten, maggot-filled devil’s food cake. The world is a wonderful place when you ACTIVELY make it so. Remember that.
