“Annie” was one of my most-loved movies of all time. I introduced my children to it and it’s a pleasure we share together. I must admit I wasn’t sure what to expect from Quvenzhané Wallis taking over the role as Annie, but from the looks of it, she’s fit in just fine.
There’s a few significant things happening in this movie that I’m liking so far. Of course, we have a black, female heroine depicted smart, clever, and a loyal friend. But she also needs to be rescued, and there’s a strong and capable male character introduced that loves and cherishes her and is motivated to save her. Now I know for some modern women, you might bristle at the notion of the damsel in distress in need of saving by a man. Well, get over it. Little black girls are worth saving.
