That Preppy Style Menswear–How to Get Some.

G’day BB&W Crew,

I am  in a happy spring mood today however summer is right around the corner and I plan to celebrate it with style. Preppy style that is.

Since the 1950s, the preppy style, synonymous with the Ivy leaguers came on to the radar in fashion and hasn’t left. It is a classic trend that is popular all year round every year and represent a crop of well dressed and fashionable men and women. Polo shirts, button-down shirts, argyle,  and yacht shoes are in the forefront this season.

(Let’s take a moment of silence and drool collectively ladies)

A moment of silence please

Where was I? **Fans self with paper fan** Ermmm, as I was saying, Ralph Lauren’s Rugby Collection (which is more 1920s and 30s and I will do a post on that later) Polo Ralph Lauren, Lacoste and classic designer, Tommy Hilfiger, have made millions off of the preppy style. Now Dolce and Gabbana, Versace and others are jumping on the trend.

Preppy style is so in, that we even had a dance called the Prep, in the 80s. And with the new guard of hip-hop stars like Kanye West and Pharrell making the style more popular in recent years, it is no wonder that preppy style is back, better than ever.

Unfortunately, in Texas specifically Houston, when I worked at Neiman Marcus, Tommy Bahama (don’t get me started) was the most bought designer because and I quote “only gay men dress up.” Seriously people? Believe it or not there used to be a time when all MEN dressed fashionably. Remember men,  just as you want your women to look good on your arm, we want you to look just as put together, so don’t be delusional, get some style. That is one of the things I love about being in Chicago and NYC, the men know how to dress (and there will be a post).  And when I am in London, Paris, or Italy, I get girlie wood from all the dapper gents running around.

I will say this as a final pot- shot, after the age of 18,  ‘Ima’ need you NOT to wear pants hanging off your a**. Put a belt on it and dress it up with some awesome loafers. Now prep may not be your style (I will do some more post on others), but for the love of little bunnies find one that is not reminiscent of a prison yard, a really bad pimp or Hawaii 5-0 circa 1985, savvy? So without further ado and as promised gentlemen, here is how you can steal the style: P.S. no men purses, there are enough men bags–not the same thing– alternatives out there that  you do not have to be running around with an item designed for women (shakes head), no Birkenstocks, no flip flops (they were made for the beach and the shower), no socks with your boat shoes (thanks Law) and for the love of cute baby seals NO CROCS!:
