If you’re a fashionista known to step out of your house every day looking effortlessly flawless, then why should traveling out of town be any different? Long gone are the days where you need neglect your makeup, tie up your hair, and throw on some sweat pants and oversized tee-shirt (unless of course that’s your thing). Nowadays, the airports seem to be the new “unofficial” runway for celebrities to look chic, casual, yet fashionable as they make their way to their next destination. So why not look your best as well?
Check out these fashion tips on how to dress the part while traveling.
1. Flats Are Your Best Friend
Now when I say travel fashionably, I don’t recommend that you walk around the airport with four inch heels on while toting luggage and children on your hip. What I mean is find comfortable fashions – such as flats. Consider shoes like loafers, ankle booties, or strappy flat sandals. If you don’t want to wear shoes, you can still look pretty cute with a pair of clean low key sneakers like Keds, Converses, Vans, or whatever your brand of choice might be. You want to stick to easy to wear shoes that are great for walking long distances or standing for long periods of time. Additionally if a long flight is part of your travel agenda, it may be worth looking into anti embolism hose to prevent and relieve tired achy legs. These stockings apply pressure to help improve circulation and they come in varying colors to match your style no matter what shoe you decide to wear.
2. Always Pack a Jacket
Whether it’s the middle of winter or the dead of summer, you want to make sure that you have a jacket (or sweater) with you at all times. No matter where you are or where you’re going, the temperature in the airport and on the plane are often a lot cooler than you would imagine. So having a nice jacket to compliment your outfit is ideal.
3. Boyfriend Jeans or Yoga Pants
There’s no need in going over the top when it comes to your travel fashion as you’ll be sitting on a plane for hours so comfort is always key. Throwing on a pair of yoga pants, leggings, jogger pants, or boyfriend jeans is a great way to look the part while also feeling comfortable. Leggings can often be paired with a nice novelty t-shirt and a nice pair of sneakers. Boyfriend jeans on the other hand are a lot looser than wearing skinny jeans and can be paired with several tops including the oversized lumber-jack button up or even a cute summer top and a pair of gladiator sandals.
4. Ditch the Duffle Bag and Carry and Large Tote Bag
So you’re only allowed one carryon bag for the flight, and while you might be tempted to pull out the old duffle bag to throw all your things into, there are other fashionable options. Large tote bags are definitely in style this year and they work well as carryon bags. They have several compartments making it easy for you to store things like your keys, wallet, cell phone, tablet, makeup, and whatever else you need to carry around with you. They come in varying sizes and colors so finding one to complete you look should be no trouble at all.
5. Take it Easy on the Makeup
While nothing beats a clear, fresh, natural look, there is also nothing wrong with adding a little makeup to your face before heading to the airport. However, remember, you’re not getting ready for a photo shoot so there’s really no need to go full glam to sit on a plane. I suggest keeping your makeup light and simple. Invest in a good skincare cleanser and lotion, clean your skin up really good, and maybe add a small amount of foundation, a tinted gloss, and maybe a hint of eye shadow and liner to complete your look.
So the next time you’re planning to board a plane, you can do so in style. Keep in mind that since there will be lots of walking, sitting, and standing, you don’t want to compromise comfort for style. So as you select your traveling outfit make sure that it provides you with the comfort you need to get from point A to point B. These travel fashion basics will certainly help you look and feel your best as you get away from the everyday struggles of life.
